Orleans Criminal Court Clerk Arthur Morrell wants the City Council to consider approving a proposed 2014 budget that he has developed for his office because he claims Mayor Landrieu's plan is insufficient.
Morrell told the Council during budget hearings Tuesday that he's proposing a $4.8 million budget for 2014, which includes an average two and a half percent pay raises for his employees.
The Landrieu administration has proposed funding of $3.7 million for Morrell's office, the same amount as that budgeted for 2013.
"I'm asking that you reward these people who haven't had a raise over there in over 6 years," Morrell said.
Morrell claims he needs 90 employees to adequately staff his office. He says that under Landrieu's budget proposal, he can afford to fund only 81 full-time and 2 part-time positions.
"The personnel I have now have really done a good job. They're working hard. Some of them are doing more than one duty," Morrell adds.
