Opponents Of NOPD Tattoo Policy Not Giving Up Fight To Change It

Opponents of the New Orleans Police Department's new tatoo policy say they haven't given up their fight to change it.

One of the opponents is the Fraternal Order of Police (FOP). Spokesman Raymond Burkhart says the group plans to work with NOPD Supt. Ronal Serpas to try to amend the policy, which requires officers to conceal all visible tatoos.

"The superintendent right now wants to keep the policy as he has it. We're gonna keep trying to dialogue with him to try and get the policy to where it's amenable to the troops as well as to the superintendent," Burkhart said.

"There's nothing wrong with trying to be professional. The problem is you have to be able to balance that against a culture as well as the wishes of your officers who are asking for nothing more than to display tatoos that are not offensive," Burkhart said.
