The Slidell City Council took offense to comments New Orleans Inspector General Ed Quatrevaux made last week to the St. Tammany Parish Inspector General Task Force - and decided to hold a special meeting Monday night to issue a response.
Quatrevaux was invited to speak to the task force which is studying the feasibility of having an IG for St. Tammany.
When asked about the need for a government watchdog office, Quatrevaux said he believed every parish should have one because the world is "full of thieves and liars", and such people are often drawn to governments because they're typically unable to defend themselves against fraud.
"He inferred that we were all liars and corrupt and we weren't worthy of the public trust," says Council President Lionel Hicks.
"We are worthy of the public trust and we have not done anything in the past or do we plan to do anything that would deem us unworthy of the public trust, and we are not thieves and we are not liars," Hicks told 99.5FM.
